Archipelago Productions’ Demons to Premiere at TIFF 50

Archipelago is proud to announce that Demons will have its World Premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, an extraordinary milestone, made even more meaningful by debuting a Toronto-based story in our home city.

Archipelago Productions partnered with actor and writer Preeti Torul to develop her bold new series concept. A sharp, character-driven heist story that explores the complexities of a mother-daughter relationship within a South Asian immigrant family. Blending dark humor with themes of trauma and intergenerational struggle, the project draws tonal inspiration from acclaimed series such as Barry, Hacks, and Beef. From the outset, we knew this was a story with both heart and heat.

With the generous support of Ontario Creates and the visionary Kelly Fyffe-Marshall attached as Director, the project quickly gained momentum. In a single, high-energy night of production, a small but formidable team of filmmakers and ACTRA performers came together at the iconic Ted’s Diner to bring the pilot to life. Post-production was completed in-house at Archipelago, with colour finishing by Studio Feather, resulting in a polished and powerful short that captures the spirit of the series.

And now, the journey continues.
